Sub-bottom Profiling System with 512i Tow Vehicle.
The EdgeTech 3200-XS Sub-bottom Profiling System with standard
SB-512i tow vehicle has proven to provide users with excellent penetration
and superior resolution in a variety of sub-bottom materials. The
system, also referred to as a SubScan when combined with the EdgeTech
side scan option, provides users with great versatility and performance.
Scripps Institute of Oceanography has documented this in intercomparison
studies undertaken in conjunction with the USGS (click
here to view) and in an article in Nature Magazine;
March 6, 2003 (click
here to read article). The 512i has a frequency range of
500 Hz – 12 kHz, providing superior penetration of 20 meters
in sand and 200 meters in clay and is typically used for, but not
limited to the following applications:
• EEZ Resource Development
• Geo-technical Surveys
• Geological Studies
• Hazard Surveys
• Environmental Site Investigations
• Sediment Classification
• Mining and Dredging
Surveys
• Bridge and Shoreline
Scour Surveys
The FM Pulse in the 512i is user selected based on the sub-bottom
conditions at the survey site and the type of sub-bottom features
that need to be imaged.
In addition to the 512i, the 3200-XS System also offers two additional
tow fish that can be combined with or substituted for the 512i to
provide the user with numerous frequency options. The SB-216S has
frequencies that range from 2-16 kHz and the SB-424 from 4-24 kHz.
All three of these tow fish can be used with the standard EdgeTech
3200 Topside Display Processor with DISCOVER software.
