June 4, 2004 EDGETECH to exhibit
new system at Undersea Defense Technology (UDT) 2004.
EdgeTech Marine will be exhibiting their new 4400-SAS
Side Scan Sonar System, the first commercially available and operational
Synthetic Aperture Side Scan Sonar. The 4400-SAS System is designed
for installation on a towed body, AUV or ROV and is specifically
manufactured to obtain high-resolution images at long ranges. The
SAS sonar is a 120 kHz version with 6 (six) 20 cm. sub-elements
in each array. Along track resolution is 10 cm., independent of
range. These technical specifications make the 4400-SAS System ideal
for Mine Countermeasure (MCM) type surveys, in addition to other
applications which require high resolution at long range.
Along with the 4400-SAS System, EdgeTech will also be exhibiting
their 4300-MPX Side Scan Sonar System. This is a revolutionary system
capable of placing multiple sound pulses in the water simultaneously,
making it "the industry's first affordable high-resolution,
high speed side scan sonar system." As a result, the system
can perform surveys at speeds four times greater than conventional
sonar or get four times as many pings on a target at the same speed.
The 4300-MPX also offers superior data, with an improved resolution
of 40% over conventional sonars at long range through the use of
Dynamic Aperture Processing (DAP). The 4300-MPX is available in
a towed body or for installation on an AUV or ROV with two frequencies;
270 or 410 kHz. The 4300-MPX is frequently used for mine detection
due to its superior resolution and fast survey speeds.
EdgeTech develops and manufactures side scan sonar, sub-bottom
profilers, integrated and customized sonar systems, all of which
can be deployed in a towed, AUV or ROV configuration. It is this
versatility along with a series of specialized proprietary techniques
and a COTs mindset that puts EdgeTech at the forefront of underwater
imaging. In response to the military need for better resolution
at range for a variety of applications, EdgeTech has developed the
MultiPing and Dynamically Focused sonar techniques. The company
has also implemented Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) processing through
a joint venture with Dynamics Technology, Inc. (DTI). These techniques
are incorporated in a number of application specific products that
have been delivered to military agencies around the globe, most
typically to be used for Mine Countermeasure (MCM) type surveys.
